Description
This walking route is highly recommended during your holiday in Bansko. It is a genuine mountain walk offering stunning views of the rugged peaks of the Pirin Mountains, without the route being extremely steep or difficult. This makes the walk suitable for almost everyone, although you should bear in mind that there is an elevation gain of around 500 metres.
The route starts at a charming little church near the main road to Bansko. From here, you walk along a flat forest path into the woods. Soon you’ll be walking alongside the wild Demyanishka River and a little later you’ll pass the picturesque Yulenski Skok waterfall.
From this point, the path climbs gradually alongside the river, whilst you are occasionally rewarded along the way with beautiful views of the stunning natural surroundings and the surrounding mountain peaks.
After walking a few kilometres alongside the water, the route veers off slightly and you arrive at a wooden hut with a barbecue area.
A little further on, you reach a fork in the path. Here you can continue to follow the main route or opt for a shorter but steeper path uphill.
Once at the top, you come to another fork where you face the same choice.
Eventually, you reach an open mountain meadow with flowers, tall pine trees and stunning views of the surrounding peaks of the Pirin Mountains.
From here, you walk a little further along the road, after which you cross the rugged river via a few wooden bridges.
From there, it’s just a short distance to the hut. The final stretch follows a stony mountain path, from where you can already see the hut.
Here you reach the Demyanitsa Hut, an ideal spot to rest for a while, have something to eat or drink, and enjoy the impressive mountain scenery.
For many hikers, the hut is a lovely final destination, but it also serves as an excellent base for longer hikes deeper into the Pirin Mountains.
This route is particularly popular with hikers who enjoy peace and quiet, nature and a beautiful climb without too much effort. What’s more, you’ll often encounter fewer people here than on the better-known hiking trails around Bansko.
