A magical winter journey on the Rhodope Narrow-Gauge Railway

The journey begins in Dobrinishte. Through almost eight inches of snow, I walk to the small white station building that stands out against the snow-covered pine trees.
The red Henschel locomotive is already there, billowing clouds of smoke into the cold morning air.
I've traveled this line before, in spring and early summer. That's a wonderful experience in itself, but winter transforms the Rhodope narrow-gauge railway into something completely different.
